Reflective Essay

When i was 12 years old i was told we were going on a cruz and i got majorly excited. I wouldnt even stop talking about it. I kept counting down the days until that day finally came and we were leaving. I was so excited to have so much  fun  that I forgot about how we are on the ship in the water. I wasnt worried about getting sea sick; all I wanted to do was have a great time. Happily, this was the trip i remembered the most.

There was nonstop ice cream, drinks candy, everything! It was like i was in heaven. The weather was amazing and i was happy it didnt rain. I was EXTREMELY happy when I didnt have to share a room with my parents; just me and my two sisters. My friend came along with us and at times we'd have sleepover in each others rooms. It was great. i didnt like taking pictures though because i looked HORRIBLE and everyone would see them! we still have them now and whenever i look at it i say, " eww! I look different without make up! look how fat i was! " Sometimes i totally wish we never took them.

One day while everyone was at the pool, they were having contests like who had the hairiest belly (for men), who had the best beard and a belly flopping contest. My dad joined the belly flopping contest and so did about 5 others. Soon after, we were seeing who can do the best belly flop. This one guy was really chubby and when he jumped, he made a huge splash and got me wet. My dad and his friend were competing mostly against each other. My dad got so competitive that he stood on the head of a statue, high enough from the pool) and belly flopped into the water! His stomach was really red and once his friend saw him do that he was done. He couldnt compete with my dad. My dad abviously won and he got a plastic trophy. i was very proud and i took a picture with him. He was my hero.

One day when i was at the pool, i met a new friend, Haylee. she lived in florida and she was so nice. we became friends in a heartbeat. i met her the day her mom was playing a game called Fear Factor. she won and when she did the camera was all over her. u know me, i tried to get in every shot, which i did. if you look at the DVD we have, you can see me everywhere. Anyway, Haylee and i did everything. we went swimming, talked, walked around and even tried to meet other kids. she even met my mom and was allowed to sleepover in my room. it was great. but i dont know if she remembers me. Good thing is is that the day we were leaving, we got to eat breakfast together and say our goodbyes. The best part of it was that we saw dolphins out the window. they were jumping through the water. of course someone had to scream out " Dolphins" and a whole crowd of people sqwished us to the windo. We were there for about 5 minutes.

After the trip, i was sad because i wanted to stay there forever. when i got to school i shared my whole experience to the whole class. They were al amazed and said i was lucky. i showed them my souvenirs and my dad's trophy. they all thought my dad was crazy for doing what he did. Well i dont think he was. i was proud of him. One night my family and i watched the video we got and we laughed about how many times they saw ME. that was the best vacation i ever had and i will never forget it. Even today im hoping to go on another one

Persuasive Argument

We gather here today wondering what is going to happen next. Well, a few nights ago a man named Sir Danvers Carew was frightfully murdered by that cruefully Mr. Hyde with a maid as an eyewitness. She was enjoying life and a few minutes later, BOOM! she is passed out by what she sees. No one ever wants that to happen to them at anytime. We all know that Mr. Hyde is also Dr. Jekyll and that Dr. Jekyll will never do such a thing so we can't punish him, BUT Mr. Hyde will. If he isn't behind bars we won't be able to trust Dr. Jekyll because he will either drink his potion or make a new one. You see jury, even though Dr. Jekyll is a good man, Mr. Hyde is not so he can't be trusted. Here I pleed Mr. Hyde guilty of the murder. I aslo pleed Dr. Jekyll guilty for bringing this man alive.

Character/Theme

I am most drawn to Dr. Jekyll because he seems to be one of those people with a lot of secrets that we all want to find out. To me, he seems like a very interesting man because he doesn't like talking about Mr. Hyde and you never see them in the story at the same time and then in the chapter, " Incident of the Letter " we find out that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde's hand writing is very much alike. Mr. Utterson then draws the conclusion that Dr. Jekyll forged the letter. At this point Dr. Jekyll can be a very harsh man because his good friend, Mr. Utterson is worried about him and wants to visit but doesn't let anyone in. Something very important is going on with Dr. Jekyll. In my opinion, i think he has Multiple Personality Disorder and is very embarrassed for anyone to find out nd that's why he is trying to convince everyone that Mr. Hyde is gone be HE is Mr. Hyde.

Dr. Jekyll probably plays a decent part in the theme. He showed us he was too scared for everyone to find out about Mr. Hyde and tried to get rid of him. To me, the theme could be something like, " even thought someone might have this particular disorder, there is no need to treat them differently then everyone else. " Mr. Utterson wanted to find My. Hyde and lock him up and Dr. Jekyll got really scared. Maybe he has a good ( Dr. Jekyll ) and bad ( Mr. Hyde ) side. So far the theme isn't quite there yet but it will be. We just have to keep reading. Even though Dr. Jekyll can trust Mr. Utterson, he wasn't so sure he can trust everyone with a secret like that...

"The Story of the Door" Reaction

As I was reading the chapter, “Story of the Door,” a moment really caught my attention; it was really confusing but still got me to read more. When Mr. Enfield and Mr. Utterson came abreast of an entry, it reminded Mr. Enfield of a strange story. The whole story really caught my attention because I can picture what is going on, step by step.

As Mr. Enfield was explaining it, I was able to really feel like I was there. The part where he states, “…..for the man trampled calmly over the child’s body and left her screaming on the ground………” This moment makes me think about how cruel and harsh many people in our world may be. It was a very odd move because usually you wouldn’t leave a child there to scream you would help them up and move on. Sometimes I got very confused with the rest of the story and it didn’t make any sense. For instance, Mr. Enfield states, “…..Well the child was not much the worse, more frightened, according to the Sawbones…..” What are Sawbones? And what is this trying to tell me? Parts throughout his story had me thinking over and over trying to figure out what is going on and what he is trying to tell me. Some moments in the story can make me think about a whole lot of ideas but the most important is how people are in reality and how they should be treated.

As I read some of the articles, this specific part made me think back to, “Good and Evil,” and the man was very evil to the poor little girl. The two bumped into each other but it was very harsh of him to just walk away leave her there screaming and scared half to death. “Whether something is good or evil is determined by society and whether society has made that decision correctly or incorrectly...” This quote from the previous article I read tells me that it’s your choice to be good or bad and the choice is either correct or incorrect. Also as I read the article, I was able to say that those who are evil should be treated without respect because being evil is not a good thing; it never is.

Multiple personality Disorder

In this aritcle, I learned about this disorder and what it does to people. This disorder is a servere form of dissociation and it can produce lack of memories, feelings, actions. or even sense of identity. This disorder is real and it is the most servere and chronic manifestation of those that cause multiple personalities. Someone with this can find themselves doing what they don't normally do. That's how they have many different personalities and sometimes they feel they hav no choice. The center point of this article was when they mentioned a famous NFL star, Herscel Walker, who says he struggled with this disorder. He tried to get through it as best as he can and to cope, he developed a personality that did feel loneliness, one that was fearless. Today he realizes that these personalities are part of this disorder and you can't control them. My reaction to this was amazed. I never knew anything like this existed. As i was reading, I thought that if I ever came across someone like this, i would try and make them forget what they have and live life like nothing is wrong. This aritcle really inspired me and i definitely did learn something new today.
